Jaxon with Dr. Federman
We are excited to partner with Chords2Cure for their March, 23, 2018 event in Santa Monica. We met Jaxon Blumenthal (now 15 years old) back in March 2014. We found out about Jaxon through his oncologist (Dr. Noah Federman). Dr. Federman had been the same doctor who treated our other Shredheads Alex and Ashley. Dr. Federman even came to Shredfest 3 in 2011 and was a recipient of some of our initial funding. Dr. Federman connected us with Jaxon as he knew he was a fellow musician. Jaxon was well enough to come to Shredfest 6, performed an amazing original song onstage and shared his story.
Jaxon's friend Juliette Pegula was also in attendance and wanted to continue to help both Jaxon and another fellow Crossroads student Mafalda so soon after, Chords2Cure was born! Jaxon and Juliette together with a few friends, parents, numerous talented student musicians and dozens of hardworking volunteers have held 3 amazing kids concerts for pediatric cancer research. We have joined forces with Chords2Cure for their 4th concert to continue to combat pediatric cancer! Proceeds will go to Dr. Noah Federman's clinical trials. All donations are 100% tax deductible.
Chords2Cure is similar to Shredfest in that it is a kids concert event with a silent auction. The difference is that they draw youth musicians from the talented pool of kids in their Los Angeles school, Crossroads, interested in helping two of their fellow students battling cancer. In the past they have had Chris Martin of Coldplay, artists from One Republic and Chris Shiflett of Foo Fighters join them onstage.
About Jaxon and Mafalda: Jaxon was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma (liver cancer) in 2013. Jaxon underwent 6 grueling rounds of chemotherapy, a liver transplant, a lung resection and just a few weeks ago in December 2017, Jaxon had an additional lung surgery to remove another tumor. During the course of his treatment, he met fellow cancer warrior, Mafalda von Alvensleben, who was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma (bone cancer). Over the course of nine months, Mafalda was treated with 17 rounds of chemotherapy, 20 days of radiation, and a femur bone replacement surgery. Jax and Mafalda became fast friends and quickly realized they had three things in common; their love for music, they both attended the same school and both were being treated by the same oncologist, Dr. Noah Federman at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA. Funds raised at this concert will go to clinical trials that Dr. Federman supports.
